Questionnaire created by Dan Rubin, copy editor.

Respondent: Gary Leonard Koh, Genesis Advanced Technologies.

What’s the “elevator pitch” description of your company?

Genesis makes high-end luxury equipment for music-loving families.

What makes your company and products special – how do they stand out from the pack?

We design our loudspeakers and electronics for the family by having a large sweet spot for the whole family to enjoy. The speakers are room-friendly which means that they can go into the living room and they have built-in powered bass to deliver that rich, dynamic sound. Our amplifiers are hugely efficient which means that you can use them all year round without needing to cool down the room, and are safe when toddlers are around. All our products are designed to transparently convey the emotion and performance of the musical event, leading to the goose-bumps factor when listening.

Which of your products do you plan to demonstrate at CAS 2017?

At CAS 2017, we will be showing the brand-new 5-way loudspeaker, the Genesis Maestro, and the Genesis Platinum Phono Stage.

Which sorts of CAS attendees should be interested to see and hear the products you will be demonstrating – and why?

Any music lover – be they a lover of jazz, or rock, or electronica, or even Zydeco. The Genesis loudspeaker is designed to be inclusive – playing all genre of music equally well and including everybody in the room in the sweet-spot.

What do you like most about exhibiting at smaller, regional audio shows such as CAS 2017?

With a smaller show, we have the luxury of time to share the music that we love. It is impossible to properly assess any gear with a 10 second clip of one track. You ideally need to be able to listen to a range of music and take the time to immerse yourself in the musical performance. Otherwise, all you are doing is hearing the sound, you need to take the time to listen to music.

In your product space, what are you most excited about in terms of technology and market trends?

The return of analogue – in the form of records and reel-to-reel tape. The sound might not be as perfect as with digital, but the emotional engagement of the music is what keeps me coming back to my turntable.

Assuming you had the resources, what product would you like to create?

Time machine.

Genesis Advanced Technologies will be in Boardroom I.
