Subject = Sphinx Project Eight amplification

This is a impressive review!! I would like to ask if you can give me your expert opinion on matching the Sphinx Project
Eight pre-amp in my system.

I have a Theta Dreadought II power amplifier and a pair of Martin Logan Vantage speakers. As an alternative I was
thinking of the VTL 5.5 pre-amp.  What do you comment?

Thank you in advance

Spyros Karatzas

(Response from Ed Momkus).

Hi Mr. Karatzas,

Before I respond fully, it would help to have some additional information:

1) what is your source?
2) what interconnects do you use between your source and preamp? Preamp and amp?
3) what are your musical preferences?
4) what are your room dimensions?

This information will help me give you a more helpful answer.

Subject = Monarchy Audio M24

CC my dear sir, just a note to tell you how much I enjoy the M24 preamp/DAC. I enjoy it more than any DAC that I have
owned. You did a wonderful job, far in excess of the price. My system is very expensive and your DAC fits right in.

Thank you

Subject = Designing the Luminance Audio Preamplifier, Part 1

I would go the purist route.  Anyone interested in a high performance 2-channel preamp will find a way to use shorter
interconnects to maximize the transparency.

Go with a tube design!  I think a tube preamp mated with a solid-state amp provides the best of both worlds in terms of
sound quality.  I currently mate the KST-150 to a Hovland tube preamp with great results.

Subject = Audio Note AN-E SE (2003)

Jack,

Have enjoyed reading all your reviews.  Where in the Bay Area do you recommend auditioning Audio Note speakers?

Thanks again, and keep the good reading coming.

Best,

Randy Krelle
San Francisco

(Response from editor)

Dear Mr. Krelle,

Thank you for your email and readership. Please refer to Audio Note's website for California dealership info:

Subject = Monarchy Audio M24 & SM-70PRO
Could you please inform me whether the M24 has output transformers as the MC22?

Ntinos Giannakis

(Pending response from Monarchy Audio)

Neither the Model 22 nor the Model 24 has any output transformer.

The M22C has direct coupling(no capacitor), while the M24 has capacitor coupling(due to the high voltage from tubes).

Subject = DK Design VS-1 MkII amplifier

Dear Constantine; your review is very incisive, tremendously entertaining, and extremely articulate. I am impressed by
the level of articulation and word execution. You are clearly an Audio Note big fan, it shows, it would be interesting to see
what you think of D/A such as Benchmark Media or Meridian or DCS or Wadia or other refined front-ends out there.

Keep up the good work.

Gonzalo

(Response from Constantine Soo)

Dear Gonzalo,

Thank you for your readership and your very kind words. Your suggestions will be noted in Dagogo's review prospecting
effort.

Sincerely,

Constantine Soo

Subject = Shindo Monbrison preamplifier

Thanks for this excellent review; I own the Aurieges L and love it too, but will now have to await my ship coming in to test
the other.  Meanwhile, where can one obtain the two SACD versions of Louie and Ella and the Starker Kodaly.  Amazon
does not list them.  Thanks again.

(Pending response from Jack Roberts)

Thanks for taking the time to read the reviews and for your kind words.

Both disc are most often available from Elusive Disc or Acoustic Sounds. The official names for searching purposes are
"ANOS STARKER PLAYS KODALY SACD" and "Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Ella and Louis".

The Ella and Louis" SACD I listen to though is the special release by Verve called the "Vreve Supreme Sound SACDs",
or sometimes called the "Verve 60th Anniversary Reissues. There are 10 disc in the special additions. They were
remastered in New York on spacial audiophile equipment. They may be the 10 best sounding SACDs I have ever heard.
The only place I know to get them from is HMV Japan. Try this link:

http://www.hmv.co.jp/fl/index.asp?fcategory=5&fgenre=23&fstyle=6

By the way if you have never ordered from HMV Japan you will be amazed at how great their service and speed of
delivery is. I normally get mine two days after I order them.

Hope this helps,
Jack
