Lindemann BL-10 Bookshelf Speaker Review

By: |

I’ve said many times that we have to admit that audiophiles have different tastes. There are many who would never consider spending over $10k for a speaker that doesn’t go any lower than these speakers. I have to admit that I even like just a little deeper bass, but I’d rather have the bass of the BL-10 than about 90% of the speakers I have heard. I never felt that I needed more bass to have a really enjoyable musical experience. If you love music more than sound, and you listen in a smaller place, then I can’t imagine the limitation of the bass extension of these little speakers keeping you from enjoying some of the most musical bass you will ever hear.

Soundstage and Imaging

Small stand mounted speakers are known and loved by their admirers for their abilities to disappear and produce a reach-out-there-and-touch-someone soundstage. The BL-10s are as good in these areas as any speaker I have ever heard at any price. They are capable of producing one of the biggest soundstages I have ever heard. The individual singers and instruments just hang in air behind the speakers and to the outside of them. They do this so well that it seems like nothing is even coming directly from the speakers. This is the kind of soundstage that many audiophiles dream for. This kind of soundstage is very captivating and very addictive.

Dynamics Macro, Micro and Scale

The BL-10s have world class dynamics not for their size, but for a speaker of any size. Their dynamics were almost startling at times. The only place the dynamics are not world class is in the lowest octaves, which of course are just not there. The upper bass and lower midrange are so alive though that I seldom missed the low bass.

Likewise, the micro-dynamics were really quick. Like I said above, strings on these speakers, plucked or bowed will bring you real joy. They are sweet, very extended in the top-end and just beautiful to listen to. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a guitar, a standup bass in a jazz group, a classical violin, or a cello – they all sound so natural and so wonderful. The BL-10 lets you hear the leading edge, fast, quick, and detailed.

In every review I talk about scale. It is something very important to me in a system. By scale, I mean the ability of a speaker system to allow a performance to have a lifelike size as well as volume. The BL-10s have surprising scale; it’s hard to get your mind around the fact that something so little can sound so big. No, they don’t have the same kind of scale as Audio Note E, or Teresonic Ingenium XR. Still, they will match the $17,000 Raidho Ayra C1 toe to toe with regard to scale. But the BL-10s have a more you-are-there type of scale compared to the Audio Note and Teresonic with the they-are-in-your-room type of scale.

Comparisons And Conclusion

I have had the privilege to review some great small speakers, three version of the Teresonic Magus, the GamuT L3, the Genesis 7p Petite, the B&W 805S, the Audio Space LS 3/5A, the Raidho Ayra C1, and now the Lindemann BL-10. There is no reason to go back and do a one-by-one comparison; it’s easy to say my two favorites are the Teresonic Magus and the Lindemann BL-10. Not because they go deeper than the others; not because they are the most transparent though they are in the top three; not even because they throw the biggest soundstage; which the BL-10s surely do. It’s because these two speakers sound the most alive and are really emotionally involving.

If you love speakers that have a reach out-and-touch-it type of soundstage, if you love a flat frequency response, if you love a fast, tight bass, if you love a very alive sounding midrange, and if you’re looking for a small, stand mounted speaker worthy of the very best electronics made today, then you need to hear the BL-10. I think you will be as impressed with them as I and others have been.
