Triad CR2

Custom loudspeaker manufacturer Triad Speakers, Inc. will be releasing in spring 2013 what the company calls its new Cinema Reference loudspeaker system for larger screening rooms and dedicated home theaters.

The first model available is the CR-2, which boasts a 15-inch woofer, two 8-inch midranges, and a proprietary air motion transformer tweeter, all sourced from premium European professional driver manufacturers.  It is touted as the company’s loudest playing loudspeaker to date, comfortably exceeding 120 dB at 1 meter.

New for Triad is the Diffraction Control Technology (DCT) baffle design employed by the CR-2.  “The curved design minimizes both diffraction and resonances, acts as an acoustic diffuser, and looks elegant as an on-wall or freestanding speaker,” says Triad President Larry Pexton.  “I believe that the CR-2 is the first consumer product using this specific curved-baffle technology.  This represents a breakthrough for products of this type and application.”

The CR-2 cabinet is made of premium MDF and utilizes extensive asymmetrical bracing, internal proprietary-damping materials, and back-wave deflectors for maximum resolution at all playback levels.  It is 46 inches tall, 31 inches wide and 10 inches deep, and can be wall mounted with up to 12 degrees of toe-in adjustment, or used as a freestanding product with the optional floor mount.  Finishes include flat black, real wood veneer and custom colors.

“The idea behind the Cinema Reference project came initially from discussions with our dealers who simply wanted a very loud theater speaker,” states Pexton.  “The product development team led by David Nelson took to the challenge by designing a high-performance, audiophile cinema speaker that also happens to play very loud (without straining) in medium to large (15 to 30 seat) theaters.  The CR-2 can be integrated with complementary surrounds and subwoofers for high SPL audiophile home theaters.  We are thrilled to present our most capable loudspeaker in the thirty years of Triad.

MSRP for the CR-2 is targeted for $15,000 each.
