SHOW REPORT
Constantine Soo
8/8/24
Dr. Phil Ducote and Dan Rosca of cables manufacturer Audience AV demonstrated a pair of the latest version of the $4,000 ClairAudient 1+1 mini-monitors, now in version 5. On the 30-inch Skylan stands and driven by a pair of famed OTL tube amplification company Atma-Sphere’s latest class D monoblocks, coined “Model Class D” no less, they are the most powerful and full-range sub-$10,000 speakers with the smallest footprint in today’s market. The forward-firing driver is a proprietary design of wideband capabilities, accompanied in a bi-pole configuration with another in the back, then put into a sealed cube with two passive radiators on the sides. In-room response is specified to 55 Hz!
Atma-Sphere president Ralph Karsten did not attend, but he sent the Class D monoblocks to the show. He is the only vaccum tube amplification manufacturer, who is known to push the envelope of tube amplification to the edge with his output transformerless design, that now embraces the class D, and using the GaN-FET! For years I auditioned ICE class D amplifiers and sent them back because the sound did not match the enthusiasm of the manufacturers’, but this is now the second GaN-FET I’ve heard this year to delightful results since reviewing the Technics SU-R1000. Of course, the whole system being controlled by the Atma-Sphere MP-3 Mk 3.3 balanced tube preamplifier was a big factor.
All cablings were of the company’s own flagship frontRow series.
