By: |
STOW, OH, May 8, 2017 – Audio-Technica today announced the introduction of its ATH-SR6BT Wireless Over-Ear High-Resolution Headphones with Bluetooth® and NFC wireless technologies. Available exclusively at select Best Buy stores and on BestBuy.com, the new ATH-SR6BT combines exceptional audio quality from any music source with the convenience of cable-free operation, long rechargeable battery life and a handy foldable design.

Ideal for use with smartphones, portable music players, tablets, laptops and other Bluetooth wireless devices, the Audio-Technica ATH-SR6BT employs aptX® sound-improvement technology, specifically created to yield the best-possible audio performance over a Bluetooth transmission. Connecting to the ATH-SR6BT is simple thanks to its NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality. Just touch any NFC-compatible device to the “N” logo on the headphones and the device and headphones are automatically paired and connected.

The ATH-SR6BT includes a built-in mic and controller for answering calls and controlling volume and music playback. Its mic and volume control are conveniently built into the left earcup for easy access and its high-fidelity omnidirectional condenser mic provides clear, intelligible audio quality during phone calls. The headphones’ 45 mm drivers and wide-range 5 Hz – 40,000 Hz frequency response deliver powerful, detailed and immersive sound. The ATH-SR6BT supports aptX and AAC codecs (as well as the SBC format).

The ATH-SR6BT can be used as a wired headphone when used with non-Bluetooth wireless devices, or in areas where wireless reception isn’t feasible or when battery power is low. The ATH-SR6BT also offers Hi-Res Audio performance when used with its detachable 3.9-foot cable. Its rechargeable lithium polymer battery provides up to 30 hours of continuous use (1,000 hours standby) and can be recharged using the included USB charging cable. The headphones have a compact, foldable design and their soft memory foam earpads and headband offer total comfort along with superior sound isolation. In addition to its audio and USB cables the ATH-SR6BT comes with a carrying pouch.

The Audio-Technica ATH-SR6BT will be available exclusively from selected Best Buy stores and on BestBuy.com beginning May 21, 2017 at a suggested retail price of US$199.00.

About High-Resolution Audio

In Brief: The Move to Hi-Res Audio
While many listeners may believe that high-resolution audio came along with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982, constraints on the disc’s storage space always prevented CD audio (standardized at 44.1 kHz/16-bit) from fully and completely reproducing the original recorded sound. The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only made this problem more pronounced – the necessary compression of these files causes audio information to be lost, thus greatly reducing the audio quality. But with lossless audio file formats, faster Internet speeds, and storage space increasingly easy to come by (and in ever-smaller packages), the push is on to create audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true Hi-Res Audio, generally considered to be 96 kHz/24-bit or better. The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets the Hi-Res Audio standards. Per these standards, headphones must have transducer frequency performance to at least 40 kHz. As a producer of these types of audiophile headphones since 1972, Audio-Technica is well-positioned to provide audio solutions that meet the demands of Hi-Res Audio media formats, allowing for the full reproduction of their extended sonic characteristics.
