And then there were … Liner Notes
A slow week, picking up at the end, just.So I’m going to load up with bullet points, the ones that got me thinking and re-listening, particularly the ones in boldface.
- Cotatcha Orchestra – Bigbandová elektronika
- Jonas Kaufmann – It’s Christmas!
- Mari Kodama & Matt Haimovitz – Mon ami, mon amour
- Michael Spyres – Amici e Rivali
- Neil Diamond – Classic Diamonds With The London Symphony Orchestra
- Sara Bareilles – More Love Songs from Little Voice Season One
- SílviaPérez Cruz – Farsa (géneroimposible)
- Vladimir Jurowski, LPO – Vladimir Martynov: Utopia
The Re-Issues, Re-Masters, and Miscellany section did not disappoint. Elvis Presley’s From Elvis in Nashville stirred the pot, getting me to put Eclectic Costello on the back burner for a while. With the clean sound and the track being unfamiliar, I was able to appreciate the King with far less pomp and circumstance.
Wham’s Japanese Singles (Greatest Hits) got me thinking about the duo being more than the sum of its parts. Full marks to Andrew Ridgeley, who did not receive the critical claim of his partner in crime, but George held him in the highest regard.
Jimi Hendrix’s Live In Maui. Whoa, I never knew, didn’t realize that he made it out there. I can’t say this fact ever came up in conversation or even cursory Internet searches. What I can tell you is that set is a banger and not to be missed by any of Jimi’s fans. Are you one? Run don’t walk.
Pink Floyd’s Delicate Sound of Thunder never rattled my cage. I’m not sure I knew why, but this recent remix, it has me turning the corner. Clean and crisp it resonates and with David Gilmour at the helm, steering Pink Floyd at his discretion and direction to a vision of the band with an eye to the future and far more than a nod to its past.
