And then there were … Liner Notes
This close to Christmas, there’s just no way I was not going to have a festive holiday album on the list. It was SLIM pickings this week, but Jamie Cullum’s The Pianoman at Christmas did manage to grab my attention. Jamie, far better known across the pond, has a rather distinctive voice, making him identifiable if not memorable.
The Fab-2 made the list this week, Ringo with his single where Macca makes a cameo. It is entitled Here’s To The Nights and truth be told I enjoyed it enough to wish that there’d be an entire album. And then we have Paul and his McCartney III, hmm, so much talk leading up to the release, that I could not leave it off the list, but try as I did, it did not do much for me. If I’m honest, Macca’s recent Egypt Station did more for me.
For those who just want to be bopped and rocked out of their seats, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s Bad Boys of Jazz does all that and more. What a wake-up call!
Born in Portugal, I cannot resist Fado and Mariza’s Canta Amalia celebrates the Portuguese Queen of Fado Amalia Rodrigues (Amália de Piedade Rodrigues). I grew up listening to Fado as a child. One of my earliest recollections is hearing the song “Una Casa Portuguesa.”
Lastly, Papagena’s album entitled Hush!, well that’s not its full name.
So here it is Hush! – Songs sacred and profane, tender, consoling, witty, urbane. Veritably, something for everyone, for every… under the sun.
I’m not perfect and let me tell you I’m NEVER going to be the first person to tell you that, however, sometimes things slip past me, and I would be remiss if I did not mention this fabulous Ultravox: 5CD + DVD Compilation Deluxe Edition celebrating their 40th Anniversary. A huge Midge Ure fan, I could not believe I missed this. Here are its contents:
