Refreshing to see so much new music out there. There was a lull over the summer but not now. I’m going to bullet point the MUST-LISTEN recordings of the New Releases:
- Matt Berry: Phantom Birds
- Mary Hopkin: Another Road
- Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets: Live At The Roundhouse
- The Dream Syndicate: The Universe Inside
- Diego Urcola Quartet: El Duelo
- Gerhard Daum: Rhapsody for Trumpet
- Hansjorg Albrecht – Bruckner: The Symphonies Organ Transcriptions, Vol. 0
- Sarah Jarosz – World On The Ground
- Orlando le Fleming – Romantic Funk – The Unfamiliar
- Parker Ramsay – Bach: Goldberg Variations (Arranged for Harp)
- Suzanne Ciani – A Sonic Womb – Live Buchla Performance at Lapsus
- OfraHarnoy – On The Rock
- Las Brujas – Las Brujas
This week’s Re-Issues, Re-Masters & Miscellany was a really tough call. I could not cull any title from the section for so many reasons.
Johnny Cash’s: I Walk The Line cleaned up and in mono warms the heart. It is one of those recordings to which you just want to come home.
John Coltrane’s: Giant Steps (60th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) has to be heard and for those of you NARP’ers unfamiliar, yet to be introduced, that’s why this section exists
Cat Stevens’: Tea For The Tillerman² is a head-scratcher. Do I list it as a New Release or not? While it is based on his classic album, Tea For The Tillerman² is indeed exponential. This is a whole new take on some of these familiar tracks. I’d very much like to interview Yusuf, as he is known, to best understand why now? Why this album? Why the artistic choices?
Dakota Staton’s Dynamic! reminded me just how remiss I’ve been in rotating the music to which I listen in my library. If it were not for constructing NARP each week, I’d likely forget about some artists. Good that this weekly exercise can knock me from my complacency.
Included are two Various Artists albums: No Future Complete Singles Collection: The Sound Of UK 82 and Surrender To The Rhythm The London Pub Rock Scene Of The Seventies. Punk of Pub Rock comprised a great deal of my music listening in my formative junior high, and high school years. The selfish pleasure of mine to share and make better known to you lot.
