New Album Releases Project 2020-9-26

By: |

It was/is my intention with NARP to not only shine a light on new music, release and re-issues/re-masters (R, R & M), but to introduce a rather eclectic mix of music to members of the New Album Releases Project (NARP).

Members have asked why I focus so much on re-issues/re-masters, and I’ve had to explain that in some cases their exposure in NARP may very well be the first time, recording artists/ensembles/groups will have come upon their respective radar.

A number of you have asked that I list those which really struck a chord with me in. both sections, and so do from now on. Fair enough, we’ll see how long it lasts.

  • White Dog – White Dog
  • Surfjan Stevens – The Ascension
  • Jamie Barton, Jake Heggie, Matt Haimovitz – Unexpected Shadows
  • Moses Boyd – Dark Matter
  • Orgone – Connection
  • Gareth Koch – The Guitar Player
  • Snarky Puppy – Tell Your Friends
  • Richard & Linda Thompson – Hard Luck Stories
  • Curtis Amy – Eye to Eye
  • Gewandhausorchester, Herbert Blomstedt – Brahms: Symphony No. 1 & Tragic Overture
  • Jess Gillam – TIME

It was nice to see/hear some familiar faces:  Joan Osborne, Steve Hackett, and Diana Krall

I have to say that the band White Dog is going to be on my radar. High marks to Rise Above Records in the UK for taking a punt and signing them to their label.
