The Isoclean line of AC products has been imported into the U.S. market by Aaudio Imports of Parker, Colorado for nearly four years now, and it has been the one component constant in every one of AI’s Acapella speaker-based show exhibits, along with two of the $3,500 PT-3030 II Power Isolation Transformers, the $4,200 80A3 […]

This version of the Helix review contains predominantly technical information related to the design and operation of the Helix Speaker system. In the PHILOSOPHICAL VERSION, I discuss the topic of Origins. Readers wishing to enjoy that additional commentary are welcome to read that version. It contains all the technical information in this article. For those […]

We were all young once, but we never had the drive and ambitions of one Cole Hatfield of Nawrocka Distribution, U.S. Importer of Aaron Electronics, Neeper Acoustics (loudspeakers) and Sovereign system (electronics, loudspeakers). The word “Nawrocka” is the maiden name of Cole’s beautiful wife, Ania, who he met in her homeland of Poland. Think of […]

by: Phillip Holmes & Gary Lea Tom Vu of K.T. Audio has become the new U.S. distributor for GamuT and Musical Life, and Dagogo spent an evening during 2009 CES & T.H.E. Show at the Alexis Park Resort Exhibit, savoring the gourmet food while listening to music. In attendance from Dagogo were senior reviewers Gary […]

Day three began with a highly anticipated trip to Peter Ledermann’s SoundSmith room. I’ll admit to not keeping up on the latest audiophile news. I wasn’t aware of Peter’s DirectGrace Records. I wasn’t aware that he was a recording engineer, and that he could cut direct to disk on his own lathe. More germane to […]

Well, I am back from a very chilly trip to Chicago that fell right on the heels of CES, so I am now ready for the second installment of my 2009 CES experience. As I continued to wind my way through the high-end exhibits at CES, I also had the opportunity to talk to some […]

Most Monumental: Ypsilon Electronics and Rockport Technologies ▼ Two solid performers, the Ypsilon and Rockport combo was stunning. The word prodigious comes to mind recalling the prodigious nature of the Rockport Altair. The Altair struck me as monumental sounding, even though its cabinet appears sleek enough to disguise the fact that it is a hefty […]

Numerous posts on audiophile message boards start with the phrase, “What’s the most…?” Virtually any termination to the sentence can be constructed, such as, “powerful amp,” or “tube-like cdp”. Most affordable, most involving, most reliable – the inquiries never end. I thought I would do my share of adding to the ever growing list of […]

The only true competitor for biggest vacuum tube at the show was the KR Audio T1610. The KR Audio room was playing the Kronzilla DX, using two of the monstrous T1610 in parallel per mono amp. I spoke at length with the rep from KR Audio had found out that the T1610 is a huge […]

“Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.” Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope As we were pulling up to the Venetian, my host, chauffeur for the day and fellow Dagogoan Gary Lea says: “oh, just to warn you, the porn […]

by: Norm Luttbeg & Fred Crowder 11. Rockport speakers and Ypsilon Electronics [Fred] Andy Payor was debuting his newest speaker using Ypsilon electronics and a Blue Smoke server as the source. Aside from bass nodes in the room, sound was very good and in some ways better than what he had achieved in the past […]

Tangram Audio (Da Vinci Audio Lab) Tangram Audio, the U.S. importer of an international assemble of companies, such as AcousticPlan (Germany), A.R.T. (Britain), Audio Tekne (Japan) and Da Vinci (Switzerland), featured the $100k+ Da Vinci Virtu loudspeaker system. The Virtu was a 3-way semi-active loudspeaker powered by an accompanying 100-watt amplifier, connected to the Virtu […]

by: Norm Luttbeg & Fred Crowder Although attendance at both The Show and CES was down, manufacturers said the people who came were generally more serious and that they had more time to spend with each visitor. In general, show goers seemed to be getting more comfortable with the layout of the Venetian. The lower […]

Greetings from Sodom. How we wish you were here. The weather is getting warmer now that the trees are all cleared. We share no conscience and we recognize no crime. Yeah we got dogs and Valvoline; it’s a pretty damned good time.”* Welcome to CES 2009. It never fails to amaze me the things that […]

Dagogo was launched during Thanksgiving 2003, and we have grown steadily since then. To our readers and the companies that support us, we owe you our thanks. In its almost 6 years of presence on the web, Dagogo has had progressive enhancements to its features and layout. Although the progression in enhancement had complimented the […]

2009 CES and T.H.E. Show are coming up swiftly, and as Dagogo’s staff prepares for coverage of the annual events, I would like to put in my two cents’ worth of what I’ve learned in 2008 and share it with everybody. Similar to my experiences in all previous shows, Exhibitors’ systems at this year’s Rocky […]

In the sea of budget tube amplifier makers, I think that, perhaps, Audio Note UK may go unnoticed. With stupefying price points in the Audio Note range of amplifiers heading up and over the $50,000 mark, it is perhaps forgotten that Audio Note also makes affordable products and quite excellent, affordable amplifiers; amplifiers like the […]

Note: Factory pictures featured in this review. The Acapella Triolon Excalibur loudspeaker system arrived in three wooden crates, one of which weighed about 1,500lb, the two other over 400lb each. The initial delivery from the freight company went smoothly enough but did require a truck with a hydraulic lift and the use of a pallet […]

Design Goals On their website, Teresonic says the reason they make cable is because they wanted a cable that would sound natural. They set out to design a cable that would have natural midrange warmth and be very articulate at the same time. They wanted a cable that would have great detail but did not […]

At the 2008 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, I heard a demonstration of the Acoustic ART, a new real-time analogue room treatment system by the Southern California based cable company Synergistic Research. Simply, music was first played with the Acoustic ART system in place and then without. At the strong insistence of the audience, the ART […]

Your choice of speaker makes amplifier decisions for you. The other half of your decision making process will be dictated by the size of your listening room. Having a medium-efficiency speaker in a small room can open the audiophile to many different amplifier possibilities. In expensive urban environments like Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, […]

Or ”Get on the phone or computer and call or email David Schulte right now!” The ‘Mad Modder’ Well – not really – I was just looking for a cute subtitle. I’ve never met David Schulte, but I’ve spoken to him on the phone and corresponded via email. When you talk to David on the phone, […]

I would like to start by thanking Peter Qvortrup of Audio Note UK (henceforth Audio Note), and Joe Cutrufelli, a former Audio Note dealer. Without Joe introducing me to Audio Note and without Peter’s enthusiasm for it, I might have never discovered my love for how much like music a really good SET amp could […]

Editor’s Note: Readers will find this articles to demonstrate that, if anything, Bill Dudleston is as competent a communicator as he is an engineer for a probing Doug Schroeder. I hope you will find this article as exciting to read as I did. Doug Schroeder (Q): Briefly tell about the recovery from the Allen Organ […]

Much to the elations of Lowther fans’, the adaptations of the iconic single-driver technology by an increasing number of companies worldwide into their own multi-way designs had brought the Lowther name back into the spotlight. One of such companies was AcousticPlan of Germany; yet, unlike all others, Klaus Jäckle of AcousticPlan was not content with […]

Rogue Audio is out to slay a few dragons, or at least a Medusa. Seems they’re taking a “no holds barred” approach to making components which go toe-to-toe with all comers. Does the Perseus have a “take no prisoners” sound, or will it expire on the battlefield? Will this preamp become worthy of attaining mythic […]

The Question and Explanation Why would anyone go to the trouble and expense of putting together a mono vinyl setup? The answer is simple; there is a lot of great music out there available only on mono and it sounds so much better on a true-mono cartridge. By a true-mono cartridge I mean a cartridge […]

I bought my first 3 compact discs in England before discs and players were available in the U.S.; I guess I had bought the sales pitch. Since then, I have heard great improvement in CD players and later, transports and digital-to-analog converters. I have experimented with much success with power cords, digital wires, fuses, and […]
